NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writers Month. Let's get started writing those 50,000 words! Start strong and make it easier on your self later. I hope you prepped well at our Prep Day on 10/22 instead of just snacking the whole time (I mean that's what I was doing... but enough about me). There will also be a space to read out loud anything that you have written so far in case you want some helpful feedback. Not everyone likes criticism, but many writers find it not only helpful, but even necessary for the writing process. We'll still have writing prompts available for you to use as well.

If you are a local author and would like to participate in the fair, please fill out our author application form. This can be found here as a .pdf to print or here as an online form to fill out.

Are you stuck in a reading rut? Have you read all of the latest romance novels? Fantasy Novels? James Patterson?
The Library has a delightful new way to mix it up. A speed dating style event with books for a partner. You get 5 minutes to read a book and then move on to the next one. Rate each book as you go and at the end you find out what the books are and get the chance to check them out or put them on hold for later. You may be surprised to find out that you actually like historical fiction, science fiction, or westerns. There are so many books in the world written by so many different people. Try something new and see what happens on Monday, November 7th.
Pre-registrarion is requested so we know how many books to have ready for everyone and starts Monday, October 10th.

Got a book you absolutely LOVE and want everyone to know about it? Then do it! At 11:30 am SPL will be hosting our very first 5 Star Reads Book Club. Feel free to drop by and recommend your favorite book or a book you recently read that you would rate 5 out of 5 stars. It doesn't matter if it's fiction or non-fiction, biography or not, any genre you care to share. We want to know what you have read and why you loved it.
And hey, you never know, you might find your next 5 Star Read while you listen to someone else rave about theirs.
Also, there'll be snacks. Who doesn't like to talk about books and eat snacks?
Join us for a conversation with Caitlin Doughty, mortician, bestselling author, and advocate for death acceptance. Hailed by The New York Times as "a relentlessly curious and chipper tour guide to the underworld,” she’ll discuss reform of Western funeral industry practices and much more with Mark Bazer (The Interview Show).
Caitlin Doughty is a mortician, advocate, and bête noire of the traditional funeral industry. Her educational webseries "Ask a Mortician" has been viewed almost 250 million times and her three books were New York Times bestsellers - Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, From Here to Eternity, and Will My Cat Eat My Eyeballs? She founded a Los Angeles funeral home as well as the funeral reform collective The Order of the Good Death, which spawned the death positive movement.
Mark Bazer is host and creator of “The Interview Show,” a talk show in a bar. Aired on Chicago's PBS station, WTTW, and filmed at The Hideout, it features conversations as substantive as they are entertaining.
